Gretta J. Beckwith

Gretta J. Beckwith, 81, of Iron River and Dousman, WI passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at home with her loving family by her side.

Gretta was born on November 8, 1938 in Tripoli, WI to Oscar and Gretta (Van Natta) Fehrman. She moved to Waukesha and graduated from Waukesha South High School. Gretta married the love of her life, Robert “BB” Beckwith in 1957. The center of Gretta’s life was her faith and family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was truly an inspiration and a source of strength and courage to her family. She loved the peacefulness of the Northwoods and especially her view of Iron Lake. Watching bald eagles brought a lot of joy. For leisure, she enjoyed needlework, reading, painting and nature. She was always up for a game of cards or a good party and could often be found tending her gardens. She loved to make pizzas and enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and family. She had a gift for telling stories of her youth and the good old days. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. We are blessed.

Gretta is survived by: her children, Joy (Peter) Kloskey, Judy (Ken) Connon, and Robert (Judy) Beckwith, Jr.; her grandchildren, Melissa (Derek) Geppert, Laura (Joseph) Socolick, Kelli (Richard Sarants) Kloskey, Keri (Dan) Sellhausen, Courtney Connon, Lindsay (Andrew Weinheimer) Connon, Sarah (Daniel Hipke) Connon, Jessica Beckwith, and Stephanie (Jordan) Bartolazzi; her great-grandchildren, Isabella, Madeline, Jameson, Jacob, Brooklyn, Kayden, Kaylee, Danielle, and Amelia; her brother, Gerald (Betty) Fehrman; her sisters, Idel Kangas, Doris (Wayne) Haylett, and Norma Edwards; and her dear friends Mary and Michael Warbalow, Gerald and Sherry Walters. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Gretta is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband Robert, grandson Michael “JJ”, brothers Norwin, LeRoy, Donald, and baby Oscar.

Memorials in Gretta’s honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 4:00PM until 7:00PM on Thursday, December 5, 2019 and from 11:00AM until Noon on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland, WI. Gretta will be laid to rest immediately following the service in St. Agnes Cemetery in Ashland, WI.
