Christina D. West
Christina D. West, 91, Raymore, MO, formerly of Carrollton, MO passed away, Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Christina was born January 1, 1919 in Dunfermline, Scotland, the daughter of E B and Elizabeth (Reid) Drysdale. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was six years old. She grew up in Parentum, Pennsylvania. Christina attended Slippery Rock Teacher’s College in Pennsylvania and Columbia University in New York City. She received her Masters Degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a Music Education Degree from Northwestern University in Illinois.
On April 28, 1942 she married Paul Woodrow West in Carrollton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1997.
Christina taught school for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1985 from Carrollton R-VII. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, Missouri and attended the Belton Christian Church. She helped establish and direct the Eddie Tyhurst Memorial Handbell Choir at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton.
Christina is survived by her two sons, John & wife, Sharon of Belton, MO and Fred & wife, Alice of Columbia, MO; and her grandson, David of Topeka, KS, and nine nieces and nephews.
Her parents, two sisters, and in-laws, John and Marie West, also preceded her in death.
Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
